In addition to professional textbooks and journals, the library has many resources specifically written for people who are not medically trained. The collection consists of both print and online resources, including hundreds of books and over 1500 journals, as well as numerous other resources. The library also provides access to a variety of healthcare databases and assistance in using them. Through the generosity of the PVHMC Auxiliary, a special collection of resources for families and others who care for children with special healthcare needs has recently been established. The Children with Special Healthcare Needs Collection includes books in both English and Spanish that are specifically written for the children themselves, as well as others written for parents, caregivers and siblings. For patrons affiliated with PVHMC (Associates, physicians and volunteers), all library services are free of charge, and items may be checked out for two weeks. Other patrons may use any of the resources on-site, may make photocopies, and may check out the books from the Children with Special Healthcare Needs Collection. A qualified Medical Librarian provides library assistance, as well as the full range of reference services. The librarian is also available to assist with Internet searches as needed. The Medical Library is located on the east side of the hospital, across from the Emergency Department. The Library is usually open Monday through Thursday 8:30am to 4:30pm, and Friday from 8:00am to noon. Visitors are asked to call ahead. For more information about the Medical Library at PVHMC, or to speak to the librarian, please call (909) 865-9878, or email deborah.klein@pvhmc.org
