INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (PICU) Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides life-saving medical care to critically ill or injured children. The only service of its kind in the area, the PICU is a 10-bed facility staffed by caring medical professionals specially trained in diagnosing and treating pediatric emergency conditions. The PICU medical team includes physician specialists, called pediatric intensivists, specially trained nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, registered dietitians, and pharmacists, among others. These highly trained experts provide the most advanced pediatric medical care available, all in a comforting and compassionate setting. The PICU also provides specially equipped emergency vehicles and an expert pediatric team to safely transport critically ill or injured children from emergency rooms throughout the region to Pomona Valley Hospital 24 hours a day.
